Support Groups

If you are young and your life is being impacted by Parkinson's disease, consider a Young Onset Support Group.

A support group is a very special way of connecting with others...one that can provide you with a safe and private place to learn about YOPD, ask questions, and share what living with PD is really like with others, like you, who truly know.

Become a Member

People join support groups for a variety of reasons including:

• Wanting to connect with other young people with similar experiences.
• Needing some emotional and practical support in managing PD.
• Finding advocacy or fundraising partners.

Benefits of Support Groups are universal in some ways and quite personal in others. Some you may find are relevant now, others may become important as you get more engaged in the group or in the Parkinson's community as a whole.

Contact us or your regional APDA Information & Referral Center and let us help you find the group closest to you.

Become a Leader

People become support group leaders for a variety of reasons including:

  • Wanting a young onset-specific group to be available in their area
  • Feeling it's important to "give back," and help others learn from their experience.
  • Knowing first-hand how important the caregiving role is and offering family members and friends a place to share their feelings and get support.
  • Being a healthcare professional with particular interest in PD.
