If you are young and have Parkinson's disease, you are not alone.

Thousands of young adults in the United States and around the world are living with Parkinson's disease. Like you, they're tackling the challenges of career, parenting and pursuing goals for the future. The American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) is here for you.

Our mission at the APDA National Young Onset Center is to provide you with accurate information and supportive resources to help you lead your life as fully as possible. We understand that whether you are newly diagnosed or if you have been living with the disease for years, having Parkinson's disease at a young age creates very particular issues, questions and concerns, such as:

•  Relationship issues with spouses, parents, children...

•  Accurate and age-specific medical information from the experts

•  Common psychological/emotional issues
•  Career & financial planning for the long term
•  Accurate and constructive news on current medical research
•  Contact with other young people with PD

We hope you will find the information you are seeking within this website. If you have a question you don't find an answer for here, please contact us:

We'd like to express our gratitude to the young people with Parkinson's and their family members who have generously contributed their voices and writing talents to this website. Their willingness to share knowledge and first-hand experience about life with PD gives this website a perspective which can come only from those who know this disease intimately. May the day not be distant when we find a cure for Parkinson's disease. Until that time, the American Parkinson Disease Association will do all it can to "ease the burden."

New Center…
New Web site!

APDA is proud to announce the establishment of the nation’s first free-standing Center specifically created to serve the needs of the young onset community. As part our initiative to provide additional programs and services to young people, their family, friends, and healthcare providers, we will soon launch a brand new Web site. Be sure to visit this site regularly in the coming weeks and watch for the exciting changes we are making to the site’s design and content!

Could you be one of our new “Faces of Experience?” Have you been able to: effectively manage your symptoms, develop a particularly strong support system, participate in a clinical trial, become an advocate…? How did you do it? If you were diagnosed with PD at a young age, you and your family may be able to help others by sharing what you’ve learned. Stories received may be featured on this Web site or in other APDA publications.
